EFL Links

English Teachers in Japan (ETJ)
ETJ is free to join, and membership includes access to some excellent mailing lists and a
couple of free biannual magazines, as well as access to local chapter meetings. Very
ALT-friendly, an excellent resource for English teachers in Japan.

Japan Association for Language Teaching (JALT)
More academic than ETJ, JALT is definitely based in the university sector. A great source of information and networking opportunities, membership costs 10,000 yen per year (ALTs on the JET Programme can get a special rate of 6,500 yen per year).

Awesome Stories

A site for teachers and students with reading material on a variety of topics. Miyagi ALTs can get a free academic membership: sign up with Upper Secondary Division, Miyagi Prefectural Board of Education as your organization.

Breaking News English
Lesson plans based on news stories. There is an easy and a difficult lesson for each story. A very nice resource.

The British Council
Extensive site with lesson plans, activity ideas, and theoretical articles aimed at English teachers around the world.  The Japanese page is here, and includes resources specifically for ALTs.

Educom
Site created by Sendai City ALTs containing ideas and resources for the classroom.

Genki English
Extensive teaching resources, mainly aimed at elementary school but adaptable to other
levels. Game ideas, songs, articles, and teaching resources, some premium but mostly free.
Good discussion boards. Well worth a look!

H.Matsuda's Homepage
An interesting bilingual (English and Japanese) website created by a JTE. It includes lesson plans for junior high school, essays on studying English (in Japanese, for students), and ideas on how to plan and carry out classes. Very inspiring.

John's ESL Page
A good collection of resources, worksheets, and some cool tools to generate word searches, scrambled words, etc.

MES-English

An amazing website packed with resources such as flashcards and well thought-out advice.
Highly recommended!

Starfall
Excellent site for teaching phonics and reading. Designed for preschool and young native
speakers, it works well with EFL learners (even university students!).
