31st August 2006

Classes have started and schools will soon be settling into routines, giving ALTs breathing space to check out materials and resources. This site is a good place to start, and the links page should provide you with ideas to follow up. Good luck with your classes, and please get in touch if you have any questions or problems.

In other news, the Skit Koshien finals were held on the 23rd of August, and the results can be seen here. Well done to everyone who entered this year.

2nd August 2006

Once again far too much time has passed, and things are afoot: the Skit Koshien finalists were decided in July, and the list is online here. If you are in Sendai on the 23rd, I recommend dropping in and checking out the final.

Group A new ALTs arrive in Miyagi today. Please give them a warm welcome!

9th May 2006

The rainy season is upon us, which gives me an opportunity to work on updating the website (I have a window of a week or so). Right now I am looking forward to receiving Skit Koshien entries from junior and senior high schools all over Miyagi, and thinking ahead to the summer programs: the JTE seminars, the Skit Koshien, and of course welcoming the new crop of ALTs.

I am also looking to expand our collection of online resources, both educational and otherwise. If you have any teaching ideas, worksheets, or advice for other ALTs, please send it to me and I will make it available.

Also, check out the May Meeting workshop handouts here.

19th April 2006

The SHS Idea Handbook is almost done! All the SHS submissions are now online on the Teaching Activities website, and the hard copies will be given out at the May Meeting on the 19th.

1st March 2006

Some worksheets from this year's Mid-year Conference are now online here. I am also in the process of collecting everyone's contributions to this year's Idea Handbooks. From this year, all contributions will also be online here.

2nd December 2005

The Teaching Activities website is starting to come together. If you get the chance, please check it out and let me know any thoughts or comments you might have. Also, if you would like to contribute to, or help with the site, please let me know!

30th November 2005

The end of the year is approaching, and classes will be winding down soon for the winter break. The next JET event on the horizon is the Mid-year Conference (January 19-20). After that I will start work on the Ideas Handbooks for this year. I will be sending out more information after the MYC, but in the meantime if you have any great lesson plans or activity ideas please jot them down and keep them in a safe place.

And try and keep warm!

24th October 2005

The October meetings went well, and I would like to thank all presenters and participants for their enthusiastic and constructive contributions. LETs Meet sessions will be held from the 1st to the 11th of November. I will be getting in touch with participating ALTs within the next couple of days. If you do not hear from me, but think you should be attending, please get in touch with me as soon as possible.

18th October 2005

The Student MITIE Seminar was held last week (from the 7th to the 10th of October) and was a great success, mainly thanks to the 16 instructors who were helping out and the 48 student participants. Thank you all very much!

22nd August 2005

The Fifth Miyagi Skit Koshien was held on Friday 19th August. The results of the competition are here.

1st August 2005

Thanks mainly to your hard work, the new ALT Handbook is finished. I am currently in the middle of printing it and will be giving it out to the new ALTs at Miyagi Orientation next week. Follow the link above for the online version.

26th July 2005

The new ALTs arrive tomorrow (well, group A does) and the New ALT Handbook is almost complete. Thank you to everyone who has helped out with it this year. I intend for this to be a work in progress, so if you have a good idea for a new section or article, please let me know and then write it! I am hoping to make next year's edition even bigger and better.

19th July 2005

Thank you to everyone who offered to help out with the New ALT Handbook. It is shaping up to be a great, useful resource. There are still a few sections looking for authors, so if you have some time over the next week or so please follow the link above and see if there is anything you could add.

15th July 2005

The SKIT KOSHIEN results are now online here. Information has also been sent directly to all participating schools by mail. Thank you to all the schools that submitted entries this year.

4th July 2005

The SKIT KOSHIEN applications are now closed. Preliminary judging will be done on the 5th of July, and all schools will be contacted by Friday the 15th with the results.

This year has been the biggest Skit Koshien yet, with over 80 entries! Thank you to everyone who encouraged their students to take part, and good luck.
